Tongue Irritation

I developed irritation / inflammation on both sides of my tongue 5 months ago. I have been to 4 doctors, including ENT but none of them were able to give a certain diagnosis. My blood and allergy tests came back normal.
These are not sores but rather a red irritation that makes the tongue bumpy/uneven accompanied by thin purple waves on the sides of the tongue. I also get burning sensation on the tip of my tongue which is a little more red than before.
Overall, it's not painful, just unvomfortable and I'm worried it could be something serious.
I will appreciate any ideas/suggestions/advice.
Thank you!

If it is due to irritation, then you must find out what it is that your tongue is rubbing against. I would suggest seeing an oral surgeon http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/oral_surgery and then see a Neuromuscular Dentist http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/neuro_dentistry. I wonder if you clench down at nights and if you have any scallopings at the borders of your tongue as well which would be caused by lack of space for your tongue in the mouth and the Neromuscualr Dentists would be able to take a look at that more thoroughly.

Dear jane
1st I would also check with an oral surgeon. But your issues also could be due to allergies and the possibility of insufficient tongue space due to narrow lower arch or your posterior teeth being "dumped" due to clenching and grinding. Those marks could be just indentations from your teeth.
Sincerely
Dr. Mehregan

Thank you, Dr. Erfani!

If it's what you're thinking shouldn't it have been triggered by a change in my oral cavity. Or could it develop only recently without any changes?
I will try to see these specialists as soon as possible and let you know.

Thanks again!
