What are the visual symptoms of dry socket?

by pulledmolar, Sep 24, 2009 02:45PM
I had a lower molar removed a little less than 48 hours ago.  I still have some dull pain emanating from the extraction area, as well as some radial discomfort.  It took quite a while for blood clots to form in the extraction area, so I was biting down on gauze for several hours two days ago.  If the pain persists, are there visual symptoms of dry socket I should look for in the extraction area?  How large would any holes be?

Thank you in advance for your help!
