Why hasnt my 12 year molar come in yet?

Im 17 and my 12 year molar on my left side hasnt come in yet and the dentist says that it is pressing into the next closest tooth and creating a cresent shape in it and i was wondering if i was going to have to have surgery because im really by with pain even wen they were putting in my only filling last year i had to have my dad sit with me and hold my hand the whole time because the novocaine didnt work and im just really nervous i might have to have surgery on my mouth
