Why swollen

by magsmama, Nov 02, 2009 06:37PM
I went to the dentist 1 week ago today (Monday).  I was told that I had an abcess (abscess) in my 2nd to last tooth (upper left).  It was caused by flossing too much.  My dentist gave me a shot in the roof of my mouth and 2 shots in the left cheek area.  After the 3rd shot, before starting the root canal, she said that she burst a blood vessel.  My cheek immediately began to swell.  Quiet quickly, my jaw looked like I was sucking on a golf ball.  She finished the root canal, built and prepped with a temp. crown.  She prescribed 500mg of Amoxicillian 3 times daily. She gave me some Tylenol 3 for the pain.  I have been in excruciating pain since then.  ALL of my teeth are now hurting, from what I imagine to be rebound pain.  The swelling from the burst vessel is terrible, too.  It's yellow and purple.  I went to the hospital on Saturday (5 days after the procedure) because the pain was unbearable.  They took an iodine CT scan, and saw that I had about a 4 centimeter place of severe inflammation, but that the abcess (abscess) looked better.  Please tell me why I cringe in pain that even shoots down my left arm making my fingertips unable to grasp what I am trying to hold?  I am miserable.  I am completely miserable.  When will this get better?  The hospital dr. prescribed me an anti anxiety med along with a strong pain med to take.  I have been home from work for 6 days because of a root canal.  How can this be?
