alternative teratments fro TMJ

About three years ago I was diagnosed with TMJ. I had an MIR which showed joint ware and tear on the left side. I am unable to chew on the left side and all pressure on the right side. I was given relaxant drugs and a mouth guard for the upper teeth and for about more than a year I stopped the drugs and managed with the splint. Recently filling on the wisdom tooth on the left side came off, went to dentist, he took X-rays and said infection but not worth saving and referred me to a dental surgeon as he could not extract because my mouth cannot be opened to full extend. The splint needs to be renewed as well. I do not believe anyone addressed the issue of my bite not being correct and addressed the alignment. The information I have read indicates that the bite correctness is very important and definitely l will this need to be done. Where do I go to have this, may I please be advised on the best practice status so I can ask to be referred by my GP in London, England. Kyim

Kyim,

you are absolutely correct in your idea that the jaw needs to be addressed. Please read my blog on best treatments for TMJ, and see all the posts.. I am sure you will find many of the issues you have been dealing with..
Once you read it then you will understand this next part. Find yourself a Nueromuscular dentist.. or some one that is familiar with appliance therapy. I know that there is a Dentist in London that studies with us at the Las Vegas Institute, the name escapes me now. But if you look it up on their website I am sure you will find him.
Not that that is the only place or only people that can help you but at least I know that he has some training in this arena.
The good news is that you can be painfree and medication free , don't stop looking.
hope this helps.
