bisphosphonates and dental procedures

I will likely be getting Reclast (zolendronic acid / intravenous bisphosphonates) soon.    This will be to treat my fibrous dysplasia of the skull and the headache I always have from it.     I have read about complications from dental procedures if performed after this.     I don't anticipate anything major, but I think I may have a simple cavity that needs filling,   will this be of concern?    I am 31 years old

Hi Rob,
The complications are associated with need for root canals at times, bone grafting, dental implants, procedures of the sort. So, in your case, I would keep a very close eye on my teeth and become very proactive to never have to need such procedures. I would have my bite checked as well, have my Temporomandibular Joint evaluated and have a thorough evaluation of my teeth before any bisphosphonate treatment is done. Make sure you do not have any cracks on any of your teeth either. Sometimes your headaches can be related to the TMJ and the muscles of the head and neck as well. Best of luck with your situation and my prayers are with you. It must be hard to live with pain every day.
