Hi kris,
This could happen due to a bite disease or referred pain due to a nerve in the tooth that is dying. But it sounds like the bite disease is more of the cause. I would start by having my bite evaluated by either of these types of doctors first. This could be either the starting point of TMJ also or it could be that the replacement of this tooth is the straw that broke the camel's back, meaning the bite disease has been there for a long time and now with the replacement of this one crown, the whole system was thrown off.
The dentists that would be able to help you would be,

http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/prosthodontal

and have it evaluated by an endodontist,
