I'm wondering if I should get a splint from a TMJ dentist or if the one I'm getting from my general DDS should be fine? I'm paying 300.00 for the splint. :-/
So what you need is to have your bite, your joints and your muscles evaluated first of all, to see what is the cause of the problem. Is it your posture that has caused this, or is it the bad bite that is affecting your posture and it keeps throwing you off balance. Then you must have the source of the problem evaluated, and get your body in a more harmonious position.
So you will need to be evaluated if you need to have a splint, or a comprehensive adjustment, and also if your muscles are calm enough and relaxed enough for anything to be done. Imagine if you work out your biceps, and they grow in size, your arm's range of motion changes. The same thing happens in your jaw. If your jaw muscles are working overtime, then they will grow in size, and as a result your jaw's range of motion changes, which will put pressure on the hinge or the TMJ.
Visit a good TMJ specialist or someone who has Neuromuscular Training.
