midline and orthodontics treatment

by hoho603, Sep 14, 2009 07:05PM
I have asymmetric face. My left side face is smaller than right side. 7 months ago, I began my orthodontics treatment for upper. the treatment is intended to solve the mild crowding of upper front tooth #8 and #7.

I has been told that the midline could be adjusted at the end of orthodontics treatment when all tooth moved to its final position. Now I am near the end of the treatment, but midline is off around 0.5mm-1mm to my left side. It will make my asymmetric face visually worse. I was told that now, there is no way to move the midline even slightly to the right side. which was against what I has been told at the beginning.

about two month ago, I started my lower tooth orthodontics treatment. the same, I have moderate crowding for my four lower front tooth. The treatment is intended to solve the crowding only.

All of my orthodontics treatment are designed to solve the growding, no occlusion adjustment. I was told the lower treatment could be done separately from upper. But now, the doctor is adjusted my upper based on my lower.

I have two concern:
1. for 0.5mm -1mm , is there really no way to move it to the right side?
2. is it absolutely now way to adjust lower independently from upper?

because I am waiting for my upper to finish soon, so I could place an implant into #10. Now, my upper have to wait for my lower, which I started 5 months later than I started my upper. If have to adjust my upper according to my lower, I am not sure how long it will take my upper to finish.  I kind of feel I made the wrong decision : either I should start my upper and my lower exactly the same time, or I should postpone it until my upper is completely finished.
