sore tongue with spots

In the past 4-5 weeks I have been dealing with a very sore and sensitive tongue. I have had a lot of swelled up taste buds all over my tongue that are painful. Every morning when I wake up I have white spots under my tonuge towards the tip and one big one on the back side. This is all very painful and I can't figure out what it may be. The white spots seem to go away as the day goes on. I have never had this happen before. I have been avoiding spicy and sour foods as it does cause quit a lot of discomfort. I used to be able to be able to eat a slice of pepperoni pizza, but now even one bite makes it feel like my mouth is on fire. Any information of what might be going on is greatly appreciated.
