Opiate Addiction

by Whop77, Apr 18, 2009 11:17PM
I would like to know if there is a test available to find a chemical imbalance for opiate abuse or addictive behavior?  I have been told that I deffinately have a chemical imbalance and I would like to find out what it is and how I may be able to treat it.  I have done rehab and 12 steps but for some reason keep relapsing only on tramadol which was supposed to be a NON NARCOTIC pain reliever which is VERY VERY addictive and is prescribed like candy.  I am tired of dealing with this addiction I just want peace and happiness again!  This may be the wrong place to post this question but any and all information will be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!,

Sorry to hear about the tough times.  This is not my area but I think the term chemical imbalance is kind of sloppy shorthand for all sorts of things.  It is used to make people more comfortable with the idea of taking meds, rather than being the results of a specific test or more than a general understanding of the problem.  You could argue hunger is a chemical imbalance.

I would get to a good program and be open to the use of one of the new addiction blocking drugs even though some 12 step and traditional programs are down on them.
