Ace Inhibitors and Scars

Hi everyone,

I do not congestive heart failure but have been reading a lot of research showing ace inhibitors taken over a period of time (3-4 months), has been able to make surgery scars disappear.

I'm wondering if anyone here who has been taking ace inhibitors and had surgery (or any other scars for that matter) has found this too, or whether you havent seen any difference at all.

Any response would truly be greatly appreciated :)

I do have HF, I am on ACE-I for 3 years, I read everything I can and I hear nothing of what you are saying. Can you please indicate where have you read that??

Jesus

BTW: I have a large scar in the hearth due to an infarct.

hi, there was a study done in 2006 where they used low dose enalapril (10mgs) and over a 4 month period, it made 20 year old hypertrophic surgery scars completely disappear and reduced the keloid scars. more recently, a cream containing 5% captopril has been shown to reduce keloid scars. they are not hard to find if you type them into google.

besides the studies, which was done on a small number of subjects - i was curious to see if anyone else in the community has seen any positive effects on scars using the ace inhibitors.

if you havent thats a shame :( a lot of other people ive chatted to said they havent either :(

thanks for your response too :)

I have a dialysis fistula scar that starts across the inside of my elbow and runs the length of my upper arm to the armpit.

I was started on Enapril in July of 2010, not for the scar, but rather for CHF symptoms.  I can tell you, without a doubt, that the Enapril has done nothing to lessen the scarring, and it has caused my BP to drop to dangerously low levels(54/34).

I hope this answers your question....
