Concentric Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

Does anyone knows what causes LVH?  I was told that I had HBP in 1998 and it's been uncontrollable ever since the doctor switched me from Inderal to Atenolol.  He told me that Inderal was for geriatrics, but it was the only medicine that kept my BP under total control.

Is LVH congential?  One of my brothers had a valve replacement last year, we've always knew that he had this problem ever since he was little. The doctors always would tell our parents that my brother had a whole in his valve which caused the blood to squirt out into the chest cavity and that his valve will eventually fail when he gets older.  The reason why I ask is LVH congenitial (congenital) is becaue I was just diagnosed with it after I had an echo done.  Then I had an pulmonary test done to check for COPD and/or asthma and was told I had neither one, but diagnosed me with CHF.

Does anyone know how serious LVH and CHF is and are the reversible?  Thank you!

My grandfather had CHF for 20 years.  He was in a study of the University of Minnesota because his heart made new arteries.  My mom had CHF for 12 years but she had breast cancer previously and received radiation which damaged her heart along with the sarodosis she had since she was 30.  

Heart disease can be hereditary and there are other genic diseases like sarodosis which make it worse.  

If you take good care of yourself and watch what you eat that will help a lot.  Take care.

Hello and thank you for the great info you provided me with.

My doctor have checked me for sarcoidosis two months ago and found nothing.  So he has set me up with a genetic specialist to check me for amyloidosis; which my father passed away from almost two years ago.

Heart disease runs greatly on my father's side and so does rare liver and brain cancers.  I told my fiance that I have to change what I eat and to stay away from the salts, foods and licquids that will cause more harm than rather satisty my cravings of my favorite foods and soft drinks!  Again thank you so very much!

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, another name for what you have can be genetic or sporadic. My daughter suffered with this disease for many years (diagnosed at age 6, transplanted at age 22). This is a very serious disease process where the heart walls continue to grow until they become so thick they cannot pump blood to the body. Muscle fibers also grow through the chambers which makes the chambers harder to fill. People with this form of heart disease have diastolic heart failure as opposed to systolic heart failure which is common with Congestive heart failure.

Thank you for the info.  According to my VA doctor, he's now saying that my heart is just fine and that it's a little enlarged due to me having hypertension for years.

I also know that there are congenital heart defects on my father's side.  One of my brother's just had a heart valve replacement.  We knew that he had a bad heart ever since we all were young.  

My doctor is having me checked for amyloidosis, because my father passed away two years ago from that disease and my doctor said that many of my ailments mimicks amyloidosis,
