My Cardiogram report and criticality

I received my echocardiogram report today and  one doctor has recommeded to go for surgery under 6 months and another have told to go for valve replacement surgery in another 4-5 years. I am interested in knowing the criticality of my situation. Is it at beginning level or already has become complicated ?

Hi worriedBrother,

Welcome!

I'm thinking that your doctor is basing his decision on two factors (at least that I can see).  First, your valve is stenotic as well as regurgitating (leaking).  So, there is some narrowing of the valve as well as leakage.  Second, it appears that you have some diastolic dysfunction and your doctor will probably monitor for further changes.  Moderate regurg. is not necessarily a call to surgery, but the doctor will watch for changes in the heart's size and function to determine if and when intervention is in your best interest.

I would think that if your situation were critical, your doctor would not be looking at potential surgery 4-5 years out...Have you asked him/her about your current diagnosis?
