Numbness and Tingling on right side of body

by Justme51, Apr 07, 2009 03:08PM
my problem lately has been a numbness and tingling on the right side of my body, mainly on the leg & arm. I have pain under the rib cage (right side) and if I take a deep breath I get a stabbing pain in the middle of my chest, I don't know if this could be connected to the tingling? I don't know what could be causing this. I am under Dr's care for Hypertension and  Thyroid problem. I do take medication daily, I also go out walking for at least 3 miles every other day. Still this is not going away and it concerns me.

• Pressure on the spinal nerves, such as from a herniated disk
• Lack of blood supply to an area -- for example, plaque buildup from atherosclerosis in the legs can cause pain, numbness, and tingling while walking (this is called vascular claudication)
• Other medical conditions, including:
o Carpal tunnel syndrome
o Diabetes
o Migraines
o Multiple sclerosis
o Seizures
o Stroke
o Transient ischemic attack (TIA)
o Underactive thyroid
o Raynaud's phenomenon
o Abnormal levels of calcium, potassium, or sodium in your body
o A lack of vitamin B12 or other vitamin
o Certain medications

Chest pain can be due to costochondritis. costochondritis (inflammation of the joint between rib and sternum. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you.
Hope this helps. Do consult your PCP and discuss this with him. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
