Hello, I don't recall how I found this post but as a long time edema sufferer (legs and ankles) and full time worker I got fed up with doctors "solution"... here take this pill. For most people insulin resistance is the cause of fluid, period. I now follow the low carb diet and have no problems with fluid, acne, dry hair, etc. Please read about this diet. Also anyone who tells you to LIMIT your water intake is mistaken. If you don't drink alot of water, your body thinks it is dehydrated, therefore it will hold onto any water in the body that it can. Drink lots of water!! Thats all I did. Remeber, when the body "acts up" it is trying to send you the message that you are deficient in a nutrient, or toxic foods, lack of exercise, etc. You are not deficient in a prescription medication. Be proactive as best you can, you'll feel alot better! Take care.
Of course the best situation is to stay in an air conditioned place with the foot elevated and drinking a limited amount of liquid. I am not able to give any figure but I will not go below a liter/day without good medical control.
Also you can look for other culprits. Have your kidneys been checked? Is your creatinine in proper range? Is your glucose in proper range? are you starting to suffer insulin insensitivity? This is common in long term Heart Failure people.
By the way, are you Afro/American? Those have particular issues with HF to the point to use specific medicaments.
In addition to that, there is the possibility that you have develop and insensitivity to Furosemide. I did, due to interaction with other medicament, I switch to Torasemide and that solved the problem. Sometimes doctors mix several diuretics to achieve good results.
By the way, Spirolactone and other aldosterone inhibitors (like epleronone) are Potassium savers, so if you have problem with high potassium better do not touch them. Was it prescribed without any potassium control?
