chills and fever

My 82 year old husband has heart disease. He has a consistent wet cough and frequent bouts of numbness in his legs or arms. Increasing pulsating discomfort in his upper back. Very little actual pain though. Last night after an uneventful night he suddenly developed a 100.2 degree temp and bad chills. It went on for several hours. He also felt horrible, but no real pain. Can chills and fever be due to congestive heart failure?

Fever with chills can be due to heart infection or lung infection. Also since your husband has numbness of hands and feet, chances of spinal nerve compression at cervical spine level, or a bone infection should also be looked into. It would be wise to consult his PP to start with without delay.

It almost sounds like he could be developing pneumonia or some other infection. I would definitely call the doctor as soon as possible. Good luck,
