Hi,
Atrial Aneurysm, is a abnormal enlargement of the wall of the upper chambers in the heart. Most patient’s are asymptomatic and symptoms usually appear due to rupture or a small leak from the aneurysm. So, it is possible to have a aneurysm in isolation without any problems in the heart, as well be asymptomatic, but it does pose a danger. The common symptoms include palpitations, arrhythmias, shock, loss of consciousness, pain in the chest etc.
Surgical resection of aneurysm is the most effective method of treatment for this condition. Cardiomyopathy, which develops as a result of aneurysm, should be treated conservatively. Consult a cardiologist and a cardiothoracic surgeon for further assistance on this. Best.
is a aneurysm possible even if there are no major problems with the heart?
what do you know about an aneurysm? btw, thanx for the response.
Last October I had an Echocardiogram and they thought I had a aneurysm. The tech cautioned me not to do anything strenuous until I talked to the doctor.
I was in the process of getting ready to go deer hunting when the tech laid down the law to me, but I went hunting anyway. I just took it real easy and didn't do much hiking, etc.
I got my deer, hung it for 3 days, then cut it up and put it in the freezer. On the 7th night I had a heart attack and was life flighted 90 miles away to one of the big hospitals in the area.
While I was in the hospital they did a heart cath to check out my heart, and to confirm their prior diagnosis of an anueurysm. It turns out that I did, indeed, have a heart attack, called a small vein thrombosis, however, there was no anuerysm, just an enlarged vein at the top of my heart, and my heart was enlarged and weak. I also didn't have any blockages, which seemed to dissappoint the doctors. They came to the conclusion that when I fired the rifle, I caused a very small bruise on my shooting arm, and a minute blood clot broke loose from the bruise, traveled to my heart and caused the attack.
Anyway, my point is, don't get too shook up until they have looked into it further. Yes, an aneurysm is very dangerous if it springs a leak, but an Echocardiogram is just the beginning in finding what is really going on.
