Can a hospital take my cord blood without my permission?

I know this is an odd question but I have to ask out of curiousity.  When they take your umbilical cord and placenta at birth do they automatically donate it to public cord banks now?

No the choice to donate is up to the mother. If you would like to donate let your obknow in advance and if not make sure he knows that as well!
