Breast lift with silicone implants not healing (open wounds)

I had a breast lift with silicone implants and a mini tummy tuck 5 weeks ago.  Approximately 2 weeks after surgery the incision area under both breasts opened quite quickly.  Within a couple of days the wounds were significantly large and weeping.  For the last 3 weeks I have been on  oral antibiotics and treating the wounds twice a day with silver sulfadiazine. I don't see any sign of healing and my PS will determine today if I need to be seen by a specialist.  I am not getting answers to my questions about how this happened?  I did not have drains in my breasts however I did in my stomach and that incision site healed fine.  Is it because of not having drains?  I'm losing confidence in my PS and feeling a great deal of regret about the surgery I chose and the PS to do it.  Please tell me your thoughts and recommendations.  Thank you

Open wounds are usually the result of a either tension along the suture line or an infection, or a combination.  This has nothing to do with the placement of drains (which I almost never place with breast augmentations or lift/augmentations).  With a lift, it is not uncommon to have some form of wound separation.  If your lift was performed using an anchor shaped scar, this often occurs at the "T" junction.  These wounds can take some time until full healing occurs.  When that does occurs, it happens quite suddenly and rapidly.  Be patient and do not loose confidence in your PS.  I am sure he/she is as frustrated with your progress as you are.

Thank you for your response..  it's hard sometimes when things don't go as you expected or planned.  And for weeks my life has been completely breast centric.  I spoke to my PS yesterday and they are adding another antibiotic to be on the safe side...  and they were satisfied with the progress (albeit slow) of my wounds healing.  I really appreciate your answers on this forum as that's what prompted me to post my question to you.  Best regards, Gina

I have the same problem, after my swelling went down after mastopexy and implants I bought a smaller bra underneath the cup rubbed on my suture lines and opened them back up. They are now weeping and really sore. I am dressing them daily but cannot get an appt at the clinic until next monday. What do you think I should do! Help!
