Exposed Sutures

How serious are exposed sutures to an immune-compromised person?   A surgeon left NON-DISSOLVING sutures in my abdomen from October 2007.  That is not a misprint....2007.

I have a liver enzyme disease that drastically limits the number of antibiotics I can take for infection.

4 inches of suture now protrude from my abdomen, and there is still 12" inside.

Since I know nothing of the details of your procedure or the type of sutures use or their purpose (? to close the skin), it is not possible to be specific.  Exposed non-dissolvable sutures act as foreign bodies and potentially can become infected.  Usually they need to be removed.  You need to be examined by your surgeon.
