Facial nerve damage after chin implant

Facial nerve damage after chin implant

I had a chin augmentation 19 months ago.  After the initial swelling etc, I noticed the left, lower side of my mouth still did not function correctly 4 months after surgery.  When I smile it does not turn up like the right side, nor can I get it to "frown".  My surgeon said to give it time to heal.  I just had a followup today (it has not improved at all) 19 months post surgury and he is still telling me to give it more time.  He did offer to botox the right side to "even up" the sides, which I declined.  Is there anything else I can do?  Should I get a second opinion?  I am very self concious now because my smile looks more like a grimace.

At 19 months post surgery, it is not likely that your asymmetrical muscle function will improve further.  It is probably a result of trauma to part of the superficial muscle system when the implant was inserted.  This most often occurs when the implant is placed via an incision within the mouth.  I know of no specific treatment that can be used to improve the situation.
