Finger Clubbing

Finger Clubbing

Hi, Im a 36 year old post double lung transplant recipient post 13 years (due to Cystic Fibrosis). I was born with clubbed (swelled) fingertips and was looking for a general kind of answer really. I read some postings on here that correcting this problem may or may not be do-able and it is basically based on an individual basis. I was just wondering, if I needed to go to a specific hand specialist, or could I go to a hand specialist who specializes in arthritis and standard hand problems. I guess what I'm asking is, should I set up an appointment with just any hand specialist? I live on Long Island in NY, and I've researched some Doctors, but i'm not sure the exact qualifications I should look for. My clubbing hasn't reduced since my transplant 13 years ago, I was led to believe prior to the surgery it would have decreased, but really hasnt. Thank You in advance for any advice

Clubbing of the fingertip nail beds can potentially be treated surgically for cosmetic improvement.  You would need to speak with a hand surgeon about this.  The degree of improvement and the appropriateness of any surgical intervention for cosmetic reasons while on anti-rejection medication would need to be addressed.
