Finger surgery

I smashed the tip of my left index finger about 30 years ago and as a result the tip is larger than than normal, I have recently began to learn guitar and the tip is so large it is hard to isolate the particular string, in other words, the index finger tip touches the strings on either side due to the fatty tissue. Can this be fixed? I guess I need  finger tuck. How much would something like this cost and what would be the recovery time.

This highly unusual condition needs to be evaluated by a hand surgeon.  X-rays of the fingertip would also be required to determine the appropriate approach to this problem.
