Fixing another surgeon's "fix" eyelid surgery

Fixing another surgeon's "fix" eyelid surgery

I have undergone approximately 9-10 "corrective" procedures for a "droopy" lid on my right eye. After long suffering the results of these procedures and imforming my doctor over and over again of my suffering to no avail, I finally had him perform what was to be the last procedure to attempt to reverse the over-tightened, often painful and unnatural appearance of my right eye. Unfortunately, the appearance of the lid is much worse now than ever, the contour is completely off, the lid still does not close/relax in order for me to blink naturally, and the skin surface is far too tight and bumpy with tension marks throughout. I have been unable to close my right eye or blink properly for 10+ years as a result of these "corrective" procedures which was to be corrected with the proper "contouring" during the never-ending process. I have to sleep with a lubricant/mask every night in order to protect my exposed eyeball. I am desperately looking for a surgeon who can correct the disfigured, increasingly damaging, humiliating, painful results that I am forced to live with on a daily basis.  If you are not that surgeon, perhaps you can suggest someone with the ability to lower, soften and repair this monstrosity which has become my eye without doing more damage emotionally and physically or completely draining me financially. Your attention and consideration in this matter are greatly appreciated.

This is a complex problem that clearly involves extensive scarring (both external and internal) as well as deficiency of tissue in your upper lid.  I would certainly seek the opinion of a plastic or oculoplastic surgeon at a university center near your home.

Thank you Doctor for getting back to me. I am well aware of the complexity of my situation, my fear is that I will be placed in the hands of a surgeon who cannot handle this situation but may not be aware of this. This was obviously the case with my previous procedures and considering the number of failed attempts, my faith and trust are a bit shaken.

Is there a UC in NY that you might suggest? I have already had experiences with Columbia , that's where my reconstructive nightmare began. From there my first surgeon (2 procedures), who stated the problem was bigger than his ability, referred me to the surgeon in NJ with whom I worked for the remainder of my procedures.

I only wish that I had not been so willing to trust just anyone. At this juncture, I am much older and one would hope, a bit more wise.

I am really looking for someone with whom I can place my well being and faith no matter what the prognosis.

The market is thick with surgeons willing to "take a stab" at it, but I've been down that road before. I really need some help in locating someone who is forthright and upfront and most of all, capable of dealing with such a compex situation.

Thank you again, in advance for your time and assistance.

Regards,

Rather than recommend any specific individual (which I will not do in this forum), why not go to a local medical library, identify several authors of textbooks or prominent articles on eyelid reconstruction, and seek several opinions by surgeons who are clearly regarded as experts in this field.

I am 17 days post-op from lower lid blethraplasty and am experiencing, what I believe is the same problem on my left eye.  The lid flops forward away from the eyeball.  It appears to have lost it's elasticity and cannot adhere to the eyeball.  Please share your initial post-op experience.   Your feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,
