Fractured cheekbone/bigger looking eye

About 16 years ago, I had a traumatic blow to my left cheek bone. At the time, I got a bloody nose, when I blew my nose after the bleeding stopped my eye filled up with lid instantly filled up with air. I was taken to the ER and the ER doctor told me that I had a fracture in my cheekbone and it formed a connection between my air way and my eye. ER doctor never took x-rays and only physically examined me with his hands and eyes. He told me that the swelling would go down, and the air would be reabsorbed by my body in a few days and that I would get a black eye. The swelling went away, and I got a black eye. After I stared to heal, I noticed that I had a pronouned bum on my cheek bone like a bunion. I thought it was just apart of the healing process and it would go away. Now, my left eye has is shaped differently than my right eye.My left eye is not as "sunk" into my head as my right eye and the rig of my orbital socket feels bigger than my right. I'm feel ugly because my eyes do not match. Is there anything that can be done to correct this problem. I also occasionally get sharp pains in my head like the pain is coming from my eye itself. I don't get that type of pain often, but when I do get the pain it's very sharp, like a hot poker, and last a few seconds, or so. I feel like a monster at times and like my face doesn't look the way that I was suppose to look if I had never been hit in my face.

Is there anything that I can do to correct this? And I'm a canidate for surgery, how can I find the best doctor in the field for this type of surgery? And is it extremely expensive, or will medical insurance pay for it?

It may be possible to repair your deformity, but this will require new x-rays, scans, etc and can be very difficult surgery.  I would suggest consulting with a craniofacial surgeon in your area.
