Large Hematoma

Large Hematoma

About a year ago, I fell down a set of cement steps and within a half an hour, I had a large bump on my left butt cheek.  I had problems walking and sitting for a few weeks.  I saw a doctor who said that hematomas typically go away on their own, so he would not drain it.  It has been nearly a year, and the hematoma is pretty much the same size as it was when I first received it.  I did see one general surgeon who drained about 20 cc's of fluid from it, but that was about 6 months after I fell.  My problem now is that over the past few weeks, I have been experiencing a great deal of pain in the hematoma.  It has been burning and stinging to the point where I can't sit or lay on my left side properly.  What are my options?  This cannot continue.

You may now have a scar tissue pocket with a persistent organized hematoma (consisting of scar tissue) within it.  A surgical excision may be required to eliminate it.  consult with a local plastic or general surgeon about this. I would assume that your discomfort would be relieved if the area is removed.

Just a little more info - the hematoma is about the size of a grapefruit - no kidding!  So, as you can imagine, I look lovely in anything that might be a bit form fitting! :)
