Lip scar in toddler

Lip scar in toddler

My son fell about 2 months ago and cut his bottom lip in 2 places near to each other.  We live in quite a remote place and decided at the time of the accident not to get the wound stitched.  He now has 2 white vertical scars which are quite noticeable but only when he smiles.  I was with him at the time he fell and was jointly responsible for deciding not to get stitches and am deeply troubled that the scars will be permanent and not capable to removal and affect him as he grows up.  Please could you advise as to whether the scars will 'heal' to the point that they are not noticeable and if not when and what surgery we might consider.  Thank you

At two months post injury, the scars are not fully mature and will likely improve with time. It would be inappropriate to treat them at this stage.  If the scars do not turn out satisfactorily, then revision can be performed.  Any further treatment should be delayed until your child is old enough to notice them (over six to sever years old at least) and it bothers him enough to have them revised under local anesthesia.
