Lipoma Concerns

I have what my dermatologist termed a lipoma on my stomach area slightly below what I believe is my diaphragm. I am pretty sure I have had it all my life.  Both my mother and sister have them; my sister has had about 10 of them removed.  The one on my stomach area seems to have grown larger of late. It seems to be at least 2.5 inches square.  It never bothered me before, but now it hurts when pressure is applied to the skin over it.  Strangely, my wife and I have also noticed that the skin in the area seems to have a nasty smell.  My doctor has told me it doesn't have to come out, but that was before it started to bother me and smell.

I am a 32 year old, healthy male.  My questions are:  What is the liklihood that this could be, or become, malignant?  Should I take it out?  What kind of doctor should I seek out?

Thanks

The odor of the "lipoma" makes the diagnosis more likely to be an inclusion cyst (or sebacious cyst) rather than a lipoma.  I would have this evaluated by a plastic surgeon who will be able to readily diagnose and remove the lesion, if you agree.
