Negative side effects from chin reduction surgery

I am three weeks post chin reduction surgery which was done through the mouth and neck liposuction to keep profile nice after chin size reduced (this was done from an incision under the chin.  I am still numb and swollen and have read that this can take up to 3 months to return to normal.  My question is: My smile is crooked and I am unable to control the muscles well that would create a symetrical smile.  Will this normalize and how long will it take.  There has been very mild recovery of movement to the side of the mouth/lip that was not working and numb.  There has been mild return of sensation.  I have been told the nerve wasn't cut or none of the motor/sensory would be recovering.  I have also been told that there has been trauma to the muscles and nerves from being stretched.  Can I expect a full recovery?  How long until I know what my final result should be.  Also there is shifting in location of numbness and swelling.  A part of my lip that had normalized is now feeling numb and looking swollen again.  Please post response if you know anything about this.

With trauma to the muscles and nerves that affect their function, I would expect gradual improvement over the next three or four months, maybe more.  As you start to see improvement over the next month or so, you can expect progressive improvement in subsequent months.

3 weeks is way too soon to be worried. so don't worry! Think positive and be patient and eat well and rest. You will heal. Ir great your seeing some slight movememt it means it is coming back! It takes time. Take good  care of yourself now. More problems occur from the patient not following after care instructions. Seriously :half the job is on you so relax. Now is not the tine to stress out! Give it at least 8 weeks! That's still early.
Good luck -Seroma
