Nose scar

Nose scar

Hello Dr Rosenberg,
I would like to ask a question regarding graft healing from the removal of a basal cell carcinoma on my nose. (right in the center of my nose where the dorsum and tip meet.)
A 3mm size spot was excised and the defect remaining was 1cm x 1.2cm and was repaired with a skin graft from the back of my ear.
It seems that the location couldn't have been worse as repairing the defect required a graft which at 2 weeks looks awful.
Can you tell me a bit about the recovery from such a procedure and what options are available after the graft heals to minimize the depression and scarring and restore my nose to something like it was before the surgery?
I am concerned that the scar will be extremely obvious.
Thank you and best regards,
Mike

You had a full thickness skin graft placed from the back of your ear to your nose.  These grafts can taken many months until they look their best, but the color match and texture of the graft can ultimately look excellent.  If you still are dissatisfied with the appearance of the grafted area, then consideration of a local rotation flap from adjacent nasal skin could be considered.  this can also provide good coverage of the defect with no depression, but there will be some scar formation along the donor area of the skin flap.
