Older ring finger injury problem

Older ring finger injury problem

Hello Doctor,

Eighteen months ago I injured my right ring finger. A ball hit the palm side of this finger approximately mid joint. Two X-rays within two weeks of injury. I was told...Possibly cracked, yes   cracked, not cracked. I developed a lump on the inside of the pip joint that faces anatomically towards middle finger not long after injury. This lump area is painful and clicks when bending finger.  To this day I'm still have the lump and clicking. The pain has spread into the top of my hand in the region of little and ring finger. Any activities such as writing, holding utensils, basically flexing finger increases symptoms. I do experience pins n needles in the area. A month ago I did see a plastic surgeon. Looked at my second xray and said possibly few bone flakes or chips, maybe I had an avulsion fracture. He definitely felt the lump and said if he operates chance my finger would remIn permanently straight, did not want to risk it. Past treatments have included a year of hand therapy( including professional and home exercises), cortisone injection, ultrasound. Unfortunately my symptoms are worsening. I'm having trouble with everyday activities (that takes me alot to say since I'm stubborn and push myself through pain etc) I
dont want unnecessary surgery but are there
procedures that may help this? Should I see another specialist? Thank you for your help!

You should be examined by a specialist in hand surgery .  This could be either a plastic surgeon or an orthopedist who specializes in hand surgery.
