Peace of Mind - distended stomach and seroma in thigh

Dr. Rosenberg,

Thank you for your response below.  I have an appt. with another plastic surgeon tomorrow so that I can get a second opinion.  My surgeon believed that it was unusual to have the thigh seroma too - and I'm not sure if ultransonic lipo was used.  I don't believe it was.  As for a seroma in the abdomen -  my  stomach gets tight and swollen if I walk too much or if there's too much activity.  It still protrudes but gets worse with activity.  If I sit for too long - straight up and not in a reclining position, it swells, as do my thighs.  My stomach is better today - not as tight or hard today possibly due to little activity.  I've only gotten up to go to the bathroom and to find something to eat.  If I had a retained seroma in my  abdomen, wouldn't I notice it? Wouldn't the stomach have a waterbed?  Again, my stomach when really swollen, is just tight and hard.  I've started binding my stomach on top of the compression garment.

There is no way to be certain of what is occurring without a direct examination.  The thigh seroma (presumably in a location where liposuction occurred) is unusual, unless ultrasonic lipo was used.  It might also be related to a persistent seroma in the abdomen if there is a surgical connection to that area.  This clearly needs to be followed closely with your surgeon.

Your abdomen should be like a waterbed if there is a seroma.  Hopefully your plastic surgery consultation will get to the bottom of what is occurring.
