Scar reduction

I have several scars from cuts on my arms an legs from self-injury. All of them are 1-1,5 years old.
my family wants me to get a scar reduction surgery, but I have doubts. Most of my gaping cuts were stitched, some of them used to be hypertrophic, but now all of them are healthy. Most of them have faded. Of course they are still visible and the texture is different, but I just don't see how they can be improved. I've read descriptions on plastic surgeon's websites and it seems to me that they can only improve chronic scarring.
Can healthy, faded scars be improved at all?

You are being realistic about the possible improvement with scar revision.  With mature healed scars of the arms and legs, it is unlikely that significant improvement will occur with surgery.

I received breast reduction Sep 2007.  It has been a year and my scars healed really well according to my doctor.  I have the reverse T shape and my scars are very noticeable.  I would like to know if it is better to go to surgery for scar reduction or is it too soon.  Is this good timing or did I let them go to far?
