Will my child have much pain with his port wine stain removal?

My 2 year old son has a port wine stain on his whole right arm and hand that extends up to the axillary, scapula and chest. He is going to be starting laser treatment for this in a month or two. With his age he will be sedated during the treatment, but I am wondering if he will experience much pain or discomfort afterward and if so, for how long and how severe?  Should I ask his doctor for some prescription pain medication or will Tylenol and Motrin be enough?  Also, his doctor said that the treated tissues will be very delicate to the very least bit of trauma to it (minor bumps and scratches) and would easily break open for around a month post treatment.  Is this true?  How can I best protect a very active 2 year old from this?  Thank you for any advise that you can give.

It would be my expectation that your son would have very limited discomfort after the laser treatment.  Typically tylenol would be the most he would require.  Your doctor should be asked about this.  The issue of protecting the area after this treatment would be at the discretion of your doctor and is clearly an issue that should be raised.  Often no dressings are used.
