nerve pain post sugery/ lower face lift

How long should one expect to have to be so uncomfortable after a lower face lift.? It seems to get worse if I am at all stressed or after having done some physical activity.

Everyone undergoing this procedure will have some symptoms up to several months after the surgery.  This is a natural result of the healing process.  In addition, soem individuals are more sensitive than others to the same procedure. These problems usually resolve with healing and time.

I have seen a number of people with chronic facial pain following face lift . this can be due to a peripheral cutaneous nerve injury at the site of the scar. ie injecting the scars  temporary abolishes the pain.  this is often missed, ascribed to chronic migraine, misdiagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia etc. Whats important is that there are unique treatments for nerve pain such as gabapentin (and others). if you are still having more pain than you and your doctor expect go see a pain specialist for help.

Hello Betsey,  How long has it been since your surgery?

I suffer from nerve pain and I am working with a pain specialist. I highly recommend this as Paindoc38 has posted.

It has been over three years since my surgery and I will never be pain free. My Doctor doesn't stop trying to get me as comfortable as He can. I am On 60mg of Cymbalta (known for nerve relief not depression). I am on Morphine time release 30 mg and 15 mg of morphine immediate release when the pain gets bad even with the other meds. A cold, ,fever , stress or anxiety from anything can set this off. When I do things even bending for a prolong period I am in chronic pain. You do learn to live with it. I don't let it run my life. I cannot as I have Children now adults that need to see strength. It is hard at times.

If you are curious...Mine was from a Hernia 5 altogether combined with Muscle wall repair. It goes from hip to hip and from the breast down.
Get to a pain specialist!
