rhinoplasty after a dvt?

rhinoplasty after a dvt?

Hello!
I had a blood clot a year ago due to birth control and found out I'm heterozygous for Factor V Leiden.  I'm on coumdain right now and have heard differing recommendations from different doctors as to how long I should stay anticoagulated.  Some said 3-6 months, some said 1-2 years, others said for life.  I was told that being heterozygous for FVL itself is not a risk factor, but that it was a combination of nearly a dozen other things that caused the clot.

My question is, can I still have a rhinoplasty?  I've read about people going off coumadin and onto low doses of Lovenox (heparin) for elective surgery.  I'd like to ask my hematologist but don't want to go in looking like an idiot, ie if it's unheard of and dangerous I'll forget about it.

I know it sounds silly, but this is very important to me.  I've been saving up for a nose job for over 10 years and finally have the cash and time to do it.  Please let me know what you think.  Thanks!

Since bleeding can be a problem with any nasal surgery, being on heparin, even low doses, would make me very nervous about this complication.  You would need to discuss this directly with your internist to see if it would be possible to be off all anticoagulants for the limited time of surgery and early healing (four or five days) for this elective procedure.
