Breast Reconstruction after Removal of Implants

Breast Reconstruction after Removal of Implants

I am 58, 5'3", slender to average build, in good health and never had any children.  In January, 1991, I had 300 cc silicone breast implant augmentation with the implants placed on top of the muscles. I was 34B+ to 34C- and went up to 34 D.  Within a year, the implants began encapsulating.  I have always been self conscious because I feel the implants are too large for my frame and I really hated the hardness from the encapsulation.  I consulted with a plastic surgeon and plan to have the implants removed.  He has steered me away from replacing the implants with new ones because they will likely encapsulate again.  He discussed removing the encapsulated implants, making an incision around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease and repositioning the breasts.

I want the end result to be 34 B-C breasts with some fullness them and not saggy, shapeless teardrop breasts.  Can you please give me recommendations, comments, before and after scenarios, and any other helpful information to help me make a decision or to be more comfortable with the implant removal and repositioning?

Thank you!

Talk over the options with your surgeon and make sure he or she understand your concerns. It's a decision you'll have to make, it's your body, so be sure you are happy with what you're doing. A 34 D on a 5'3" body is quite large, so personally I think having them removed will make you look more proportional. Many plastic surgeons are highly skilled in their field, so don't worry about it too much. Good luck.
