Cyst on Skull

Cyst on Skull

I was born with a brain tumor, along with a cyst composed of bone tissue from where my skull didn't develop completely due to the tumor. I had the tumor removed when I was a toddler, but the surgeons left the cyst of bone tissue. My mother said if they had removed it, hair wouldn't grow in that location and I would be left with a bald spot. I have lived with this cyst on my head my whole life and now that I am adult, I'd like to get it removed.

I was wondering if any of the doctors out there could tell me what kind of cyst these would be considered medically and what procedures I could have done to get it removed (preferably without permanent hair loss).

Sam, I had a brain tumor removed about 4 years ago and have a plate in my head and a scare from the top of my head to the base of my neck. Because of the scare hair doesn't grow the length of the scare so I shave my head and I have to tell you my wife loves it.

Because the cyst does not interfere with daily life or anything, it would not be medically necessary to remove it. Since it is a cosmetic procedure, insurance will not cover the cost of removing this cyst. If you have the money and want it removed, then you can. Though it may be expensive. You can contact any plastic surgeon for a consult or you may also talk to a neurosurgeon for a consult, too.
