lumps 4 years after reduction

by ljfmom, Jun 23, 2008 05:51PM
I had a breast reduction almost 4 years ago. MY preop mammo was negative. The path report from the reduction was negative. 1 year post op I had a breast exam at my ob office. She said my breasts were very lumpy and she could feel alot of scar tissue.( I tend to get big ugly scars) She was confident that everything she was feeling was just scar tissue.  I have always been told that I have lumpy dense breast tissue.I just had an gyne appt and the nurse practitioner was alarmed and said that she could feel a 4 cm lump near the nipple. She said the other breast had nothing. She has me set up for a mammo and sono with a surgical follow up. My breasts feel very lumpy and I do feel what she feels but II also feel the same thing on the other side. I had 2 of my friends that are nurses and my husband also do a breast exam on me and they both said that BOTH my breasts  feel lumpy in the same area. (Where the nipple was reattatched.) I feel that this is scar tissue but the NP  seemed way more alarmed. My husband is in a panic and I am supposed to leave for a vacation in 3 days. Should I be more alarmed over this? Thank you.

The likelihood is that the scar tissue is related to the breast reduction.  Also, at the time of your breast reduction the pathology report of the condition of your breast tissue at that time is very instructive.  It is appropriate to obtain a mammogram and sonogram, but I think the NP is being alarmist until the result of the mammography and sonogram are available.
