pro bono - scar removal

I live in Maine and my son who is 21 was brutally stabbed almost 1 year ago. The attack left him scarred like Scarface. This attack and the after effects like the scar has changed him forever. He won't even look in a mirror anymore. No insurance will pay for cosmetic surgery and the person who attacked him has no money and will be spending many years in jail. Is there a doctor/facility who does pro bono work. He really needs to get this scar removed. I am hoping that through counseling and some type of cosmetic surgery or laser surgery that just maybe my son get back to the way his was before the attack. He finds that many people stare at him which makes him very self conscious of his scars. He used to care about how he would dress and look (showering everyday), these have now changed. I don't have the funds to pay for it myself and I am not sure where to find help. Any help would be great. THANKS

I'm sorry to hear about what happened. Though I think counseling can solve the problem alone. Scar removal doesn't always work and is expensive. plus it's a surgery, so there can be complications. I know it can be hard to overcome having a physical difference, "deformity" in a way, but it's totally possible. He can try peels to help lessen the look, but really it's about overcoming what happened, for his own well being. good luck.
