swelling after tummy tuck

by knock3times, Jul 13, 2007 12:00AM
I had a tummy tuck, and lipo. on 4-19-07. I am a 39yr old , mom of 3. I am 5'3", and before surgery weighed 200lbs. I now weigh 188lbs. I had a "flap" before surgery, which is gone now. The surgery went well, I look much better than before.
However, I've had lower abdominal swelling almost from day 1.
The doctor has drawn fluid 1 time , and tried 2 other times ( with no results).
I wear my binder 24/7 (still), and my lower abdomen is still a "pooch" that I can fit into both hands.
I just need to know, is this it?
Are these my results?, because, even though, yes, I look much better, I'm nowhere near flat. Were my expectations too high? Or , in time, should I expect better?

At three months post tummy tuck, most of your results from the procedure whould be evident.  It is possible that some additional reduction can be accomplished with liposuction in three to six months from now.  While I almost always perform liposuction at the time of a tummy tuck, there is some limitation on how aggressive to treat the area due to risks of vascular compromise to the remaining abdominal skin leading to excess scarring or actual skin necrosis (death of the lower abdominal skin).  Your surgeon should be able to advise you if additional liposuction is appropriate.

I had a mini tummy tuck on Aug. 16th.  So this Thursday the 6th it will be 3 weeks.  The area right above my scar is still filled with fluid and just below the scar in my pubic area.  I see the doctor Friday, so hopefully he will draw fluid out.  I know it's filled with fluid, but I am really concerned with how it looks.  Will the area shrink?  I think it looks bigger than when I started and I am really concerned. I'm really afraid that it's not going to shrink and be saggy there. I am 39, excellent shape - 5'4 and 110 pounds.  What do you think???
