A Little Favor Please

Hello,
My name is Coco, and I have a little favor to ask. My younger sister Gabrielle is ten years old and was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis this last April. She is not doing to well at this point. She is no longer comfortable going to school due to anxiety and such. She use to be a ball of energy full of life and now she no longer wants to go to school or church or hang out with her friends. I feel horrible for her, and I live across country from her. I want to do something and I was hoping you may be able to help out. I think it would be meaningful to her if others with the disease would write her a letter (short or long, or even an email) telling their story and how they cope with the daily struggles. Due to steroids she has gained quite a bit of weight and I think her self esteem is going down hill. If any of you guys would be willing to write to her I would greatly appreciate it. It would really mean the world to me and I think it would help her out. If anyone is interested please email me.

You can't write to your sister because it blocks the email address.  You need to show her how to get on the site so she can see for herself how others deal with it.  That is so sad that she has such a symptomatic disease at such a early age, God bless her.

My son was diagnosed over 1 1/2 years ago at age 11.  He is now 13. He had the weight gain while taking Prednisone - gave him the moon face.  He had dropped a lot of weight before he was diagnosed so this helped him a lot (except for the moon face thing). His friends helped and were concerned - no one made fun. He even did a report on Crohn's (on his own) as a project for a class. I know he'd be happy to share his experiences and feelings if your sister would like to - we have met quite a few people (parents and kids) through facebook that are in the same situation.
