Can Entocort and/or Prednisone intensify rectal pain?

I am a 29 yr old female, who was just recently diagnosed with Crohns of the illeum and crohns of the rectum about 4 months ago, eventhough for the past 5 years I had been suffering from the symptoms on and off.  To make a long story short, the doctors originally believed that i had a colon polyp that caused all my abdominal pain and rectal bleeding.  However, even after the surgery the symptoms never improved and just recently my symptoms started to intensify.  So my doctor first started me on entocorte, I took it for about month and started having sharp rectal pain that keeps me up at night?  I consulted with the doctor and but me on pentasa and canasa which neither was really helpful.  Just recently, he put that  me on 30 mg of prednisone which at first i feel great but after 3 days the rectal pain has started again.  I been on prednisone for 2 weeks now and was wondering if i should continue taking it and if anyone has had a similar experience?  Can these drugs possibly worsen my condition? Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.  THanks

I was having the same symptoms you described above back in 1994 with the addition..my whole colon was in bad shape due to I waited so long to seek medical help (male thing). I went to a local doctor in late 1994 and was diagnosed with Crohns and server UC and was put on prednisone (40mgs a day). After about 12 months of a roller coaster of emotions (the prednisone) I requested to be taking off the prednisone due to I would get down right mean at the drop of a hat. The doctor got upset at my request and informed me that I needed to get my colon removed. I did some searching and found a great doctor in Houston, Texas and in talking to him he was very concerned about me being on prednisone. He informed me that he wanted me to start tapering off the prednisone and as soon as I finished that to start taking Purinethol. I went for 10 years on Purinethol with no side affects and did very well (some flare ups). In 2006 I tried and experimental drug (my choice) which required me to stop the Purinethol. The drug worked great with a monthly dose but was removed from the market due to problems in the UK. In January 2007 I had to have my colon removed and have been doing great since. In my personal opinion I would try and get off the prednisone (steroid) and see what options are out there. Everyone I have spoken to on this agrees that prednisone is good for a quick fix but the long term affects are not worth it. I hope the best for you and please keep me posted with your progress.
Thanks

Thank you for your comments and im glad your better after removing your colon.  I fully agree that steriods are not good and I look forward to getting off the prednisone soon because I really dont know if its working.  I have still been on and off in pain, but the prednisone has worked better than the other drugs.  For now, Im just hopefully to put the crohns in remission and to get back to feeling almost normal again.
