Colonoscopy What should I expect? Chrons..

In a few weeks, I will be having a colonoscopy to determine if I do indeed have Chrons. In this day and age, is that really the only way to find out? If you have Chrons, is that how you found out?? I cannot have my fistula repair surgery until the specialist determines if I have Chrons or not...

I was told the 'cleansing' process the day before is the worse part, but the procedure is a 'breeze'. I am sooo nervous. I have never had this done, I feel like I am too young for this to be happening and I am extremely stressed. About everything...possibly having Chrons, all the procedures, surgery, everything!!

What should I expect? Does it hurt or will it after, will I have a stomach ache after? How Will I survive almost 40 hours with NO food? (my appt. is not until late in the afternoon the NEXT DAY!!)

I would love any words of wisdom!

Oh thank you April. It is nice to hear from others, I am really worried, really really worried! I just never expected a small 'pain' in my 'bum' last summer would eventually lead to all this-fissures, abscesses, fistulas and now a colonoscopy and eventual surgical procedures to follow, depending on if it is Crohns...I am 25, a busy mother of 2, and doing school, so why me??? I feel so angry and upset...I don't even know at who. Not God, just Mad at all that is going on :(

It's too bad they can't get you in first thing in the morning. You won't feel hungry while you are doing the prep, though, I can promise you that. The prep isn't a lot of fun but it's bearable. The colonoscopy itself is a breeze because you will sleep through the whole thing. You should not feel any pain whatsoever. You might just be sleepy and a little out of it after you wake up so it's best to just take it easy that day and eat light, like soups, etc.
There is a blood test to determine Crohns but I was told it can be inaccurate and the colonoscopy is the best way to rule out or diagnose Crohns since they can do a biopsy.

Try not to worry. It isn't so bad. And you will actually feel pretty good after the procedure because you will be all cleaned out!

Try not to worry about the Crohns either. There are different degrees of having Crohns. Some people have it all through their digestive tracts from mouth to anus and others, like me, just have one or two breakouts and can go into remission and it may not even come back. It depends on the severity of it and they're not going to know until they're in there and can see more. It's good that you're having this done so that you can find out and receive any possible treatment. Let us know how it goes and come back and talk to us. We'd love to hear back from you! Take care and try not to worry! God bless,
April
