Crohns, Candida, Calprotectin Test . . .

Crohns, Candida, Calprotectin Test . . .

I'm a new member here and have a big decision to make.

I'm 41, have crohn's and have been in remission for 15 years.  During that time, I've been taking Pentasa.

6 months ago, I developed a terrible skin problem (itchy rash).  I saw a dermatologist, allergist, GI doc.  I had a bunch of tests done.  An IGG allergy test showed I was extremely allergic to brewers yeast & bakers yeast.  That led me towards the possibility of Candida.  I immediately stopped yeasted, fermented and mold contaminated foods, and the skin immediately resolved.  I tested positive for candida on a skin ***** test, but negative for a blood & stool test.  Nonetheless, my doc is having me go on a course of nystatin, just in case it is candida.  Of course, I'll be combining that (not at the exact same time) with high quality probiotics to re-populate the gut.

During the elimination diet, and trouble-shooting, I consulted with my GI doc and got the OK to stop taking the Pentasa which I had been on for 15 years.  During that time, I've had NO GI problems.  I had been taking large qty of fish oil, l-glutamine, and high quality multi vit.

Here's the problem:
The results of my comprehensive stool test came back and showed an extremely high reading for fecal Calprotectin (360). A reading above 250 indicates a HIGH RISK of relapse within 1 year.

I have the impression that this marker for inflamation (inflammation) might be influenced by undiagnosed food allergies, or maybe even the toxic excretions of candida yeast.

My question:
Should I go back on the Pentasa (a locally delivered anti-inflamatory anti-crohns drug) to quiet the gut (regardless of cause)?

Any and all thoughts would be very much appreciated,
Thanks,
Mike
