I don't know why it would take 7 to 10 days.  The dr is just waiting on the results from where you had it done.  Obviously there wasn't a blockage or they probably wouldn't have let you leave.

What did the dr say they were looking for?

I would call the dr office about Wed. of next week and ask if the results are in.

my doctor put me on 40mg per day of pednisone or something, cortsteriods i think. was on them for 7 days. i didnt bleed at all while on them, and to be honest i havent noticed any blood for last 11 days... been off them steriods for 3/4 days.

Apart from them i aint been given anyting else , the pain in my abs comes and goes but seems to move around , not always in same place etc ... Im going to the loo about 4 times per day and having loose stools.

The whole thing is just one big worry for me, i dont know what i have, even thinkning i have cancer.... just dont no what to do, totally losing it :(

The barium enema, they are looking for a blockage in the intestine or a rupture.  Ask for the barium swallow test.  This will watch the baium go through the intestine.  It will usually help dx chrons etc.  Also a colonoscopy.
Best of luck

No worries, i know it sounds like a difficult thing to do but try to relax.

As for your results, i've got no idea what that means!

firstly, good luck for your barium meal. i hope that it identifies the cause of your problem.
As for your immune system, i'll try to explain my understanding of crohns. it's caused by your immune system attacking point/s on your digestive system, it can be anywhere from one end of your body to the other. this is what causes the inflammation. this why as treatment patients can be described a variety of drugs that supress the immune system to various degree eg steroids, 6mp, azothiaprime, infliximab. This obviously makes you slightly more at risk of catching infrections. i would say though from my experience, i became so fearful at the start and thought everythng was related, even if it was just a coincidenced. even after you get diagnosed, your body does things and you wont entirely know if its crohns related.

My advice would be to try and put it to the back of your mind and relax before your barium next tuesday. stress really make crohns (if that's what you have) worse and you dont want to be worrying! from the description of the treatment they're giving you and your symptoms, it seems like they're heading in the direction of diagnosing crohn so hold tight, they diagnosed me from a barium.

oh and acid reflux or heart burn - i've got no idea. i sometimes get heart b urn, usually related to what i've ate but never considered it to be a sympton of my crohns. i've always got it after drinking irn bru, i dont think i can blame that on my crohns! hehehe :)

good luck buddy, stick in there x

It can be or you could have acid reflux. I have that. It's good that they're doing the barium. You should be getting some answers soon then.

You don't always have diarrhea although that is a common symptom. You can have alternating constipation with diarrhea or just loose stools. I've had all of the above.

You won't know for sure what's going on until they run some tests on you. I know the waiting is hard but you should find out soon and just finally knowing what is going on will be some relief. I wish you the best! Come back and let us know how the tests turn out. Take care!

OK bit of an update, went to doctors today for another blood result, she said that blood were ok apart from liver fuction one which was abit off but no cause for concern she said.
My stool sample test still aint back.

I have been booked in for a barium enema on 11 august 3pm, can this indicate crohns?????

Also can someone answer this question for me please, with crohns do you have to have the runs?? as i have had loose stool and hard still but not really runny, been going about 3 times each day maybe more, and had the weight loss.
Can some1 answer that for me please

Thanks for your reply m8, my blood is bright red also, its just puzzling because if its bright red dont thta mean its from somewhere from the left colon which what the flex sig would of checked??

the doctor said she will experiment with me a little and put me on cortisteriods for 1 week to see if they would help, she thinks it mayb crohns or UC, anything but cancer im hoping for to be honest...

Been on these cortisteriods for like 5 days now, and ive noticed my weight has defo maintained or increased.

The stomach pain/cramps seem to have improved slightly but the pain does defo still comes and goesm also not had any blood (visable) for 3 days.

Anyone else got any comments or advice on my situation?? please post need as much help as possible, going out me mind here.

Thanks in advance

My father has UC and he had blackish blood - deep inside and lost LOTS of blood - we had to take him to the hospital as we weren't sure why he was losing so much..he had a UC flareup.....even after surgery...(but then again he doesn't really take care of himself..)

Our 12 year old daughter has Crohn's - yes she did get blood in her stool but it was "red" not dark - that was telling us she had ulcers or anal fissure which is still there but not flared up as she's on heavy duty anti biotics - she'll be going on Cimzia trials here for pediatrics in Ontario....

The doctors and tests will tell you which disease you have, ask for a Barium CT Scan (where you drink YUCKY powdery type drink that coats the intestines and travels down into the colon, takes a few hours but they can see inflammation that way...) and/or colonscopy can also see if there is a) inflammation b) ulcers c) polyps and generally the well being of your intestines and pin point better where the disease is...
