Fistula, seton? What is the future

Fistula, seton? What is the future

Hi, I have had three recurrences of perianal abscesses over 18 months, the last one 13 weeks ago and still having daily wound packs. An MRI last week has shown both a fistula and an intersphincteric abscess. I see the surgeon later this week but he has said if a fistula was present I'd need  an  EUA and seton. His phrase was "then we live to fight another day"!  It would mean no more daily wound packing which would improve my quality of life enormously. But what I don't understand is the solution after that. I don't like the idea aof a suton. Will there be definitive surgery after that? I'd like the whole thing fixed once and for all. Any ideas/thoughts/experiences ? Thanks

I have setons in now. I too had abcesses and fistula's.I had the first surgery of adding the setons, then another due to still increased pressure, where the dr. added more setons. The surgeries are only a day trip. No big deal. I have since has some setons out and feel great. The setons allow the abcesses and fistulas to drain it may take a while, but it's worth it. Good luck to you.

i've done a fistula in ano surgery(seton) on sep 2010..but then, the strings/setons is still there about 6-7 months now.. it still bleeding n painful.. doctor still cant convinces me how long i need to wait untill the seton come off.. i need to see doctor (TCA) once a month to tighten the strings but there are still some Med Officer which doesnt know how to treat this seton..i cant handle this pain anymore.. very2 painful when doctor tighten the strings..
My last TCA for tightening seton  conducted by prof from UCSI. He ask me to see expert who responsible during my last surgery to identifiy problems..   hope the seton will come off asap!!
