?Fistula

I've had Crohn's and/or colitis since 2004, but have been very well for the last couple of years. I have recently developed a sore spot between my perineum and buttock. At first I thought it was just a septic spot, but it flares up every few days and bleeds loads - if I wasn't already wearing incontinence pads (for another condition) I would need to wear a sanitary towel. Could this be a fistula?

Hi,  Thanks for your comment. I emailed the specialist nurse at the local hospital and have an appointment to see a surgeon in ten days or so - I just wondered what this might be.

Most likely you have an abscess due to a fistula or you have fissures which are tiny cuts that can bleed and also abscess. You need to see your GI who may want you to consult a colorectal surgeon. They are the doctors that will drain an abscess and treat the fistula. Untreated, you will probably get worse. Mine started out like that and the fistula kept rooting until it found my vagina. Since an abscess is an infection, it can make you septic if untreated. Get it looked at ASAP.

It all sounds a lot worse than it is once you are properly treated.
