How long does it take to recover from a perferated colon? This happened to my wife Dec 5th, she spent 10 days in that hospital, came home and stayed in bed for 2 weeks then went in to a hospital here for 10 days. She is still in bed here, getting up once a day. She has lost about 50 pounds, developed a UTI, developed a blood clot in calf, had a blood clot from emergency surgury in groin. She still has the original problem, only worse. She cannot tolerate food or very much food or liquids. She does not have Crohn's. What can be done???
It may take a few weeks to recover post a repair surgery for a bowel perforation; while with the complications mentioned, it may take longer. I would suggest following the doctor’s advice for the time being. It may also be advisable to consult with her treating gastroenterologist or a nutritionist/ dietician for suggestion of the dietary modification that may be required in her case to promote healing.
Hope this is helpful.
